BARNSLEY Football Club’s charitable arm donated almost 300 books to local primary schools recently as part of World Book Day.

Barnsley FC Community Trust is one of 103 professional football club charities across England and Wales to benefit from 275 free books, which they will be able to give away to local partner primary schools in Barnsley as part of their in-classroom Premier League Primary Stars session delivery.

As part of the World Book Day celebrations, players Kieren Flavell and Connor Barratt and mascot Toby Tyke visited a number of local primary schools.

Macauley Hobson, the school officer at the trust, said: “It’s been a fantastic day gifting books to our primary schools and promoting the joy of reading. We’ve seen some amazing and creative costumes, and the enthusiasm from the students has been brilliant.

“I’d also like to thank Kieren and Connor for joining us – it was great to see the excitement at Wilthorpe Primary School.”
