A STRETCH of road which has been plagued by inconsiderate drivers is set to be targeted as part of a council scheme.

Wombwell’s Hough Lane, particularly at the Kingsway junction, has reportedly seen drivers speeding and causing issues for locals.

It has resulted in the three ward councillors – James Higginbottom, Brenda Eastwood and Robert Frost – requesting speed indicator devices be placed in the area.

In a joint statement the councillors said: “Following feedback from concerned local residents about speeding on Hough Lane, in particular causing problems around the Kingsway junction, local councillors have been in touch with traffic officers to raise those concerns.

“We are very pleased to confirm that following an assessment by the traffic team, this site will be added to the speed indicator device (SID) deployment rota.

“We hope this will act as a deterrent to would-be speeders and assist in collecting valuable data on traffic flows along Hough Lane.

“While the vast majority of motorists do drive safely and carefully, some do flout the speed limit.

“Our message is simple – there’s no need for speed in Wombwell.”
