AN acclaimed sculptor and a former council boss who oversaw a transformation of Barnsley’s culture sector have been named as MBEs in the New Year Honours List.

Both Graham Ibbeson and Sue Thiedeman have done much to raise the profile of the town, whether that’s through the former’s poignant works or the latter’s quest to breathe life into the borough’s visitor attractions.

Graham and Sue were made MBEs in King Charles III’s list, which was made public on December 30.

Mayor of Barnsley John Clarke paid tribute to the pair’s contributions to the town.

He said: “Together, Sue and Graham have played pivotal roles in making Barnsley a vibrant hub of culture and creativity and we’re grateful for their dedication and passion.”
