LOCAL bands will take to the stage at a venue to commemorate the life of a Barnsley man who died aged just 34.

The ‘Defiant Beats Festival’ – set to be held at the Old Schoolhouse on Summer Lane near the town centre – will raise money for Macmillan Barnsley and Barnsley Hospice, who supported Joe Bailey through his battle with a grade four glioblastoma brain tumour.

It has been organised by friends Wayne Westwood and Rob Russell and will take place on Saturday (March 15).

Joe was diagnosed with the tumour in February 2022, following which he went through two brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the course of two-and-a half-years before he died last August.

Admission is £10 on the door from 7.30pm.
