OFFICERS whose patch includes Grimethorpe have warned motorists that inconsiderate parking will not be tolerated.
‘Weekly’ complaints from residents has seen the Barnsley North East Neighbourhood Policing Team clamp down on problematic parking outside the area’s schools.
Drivers have been received fixed-penalty notices for parking on zig-zags, they confirmed.
A spokesperson said: “We receive weekly complaints in relation to inconsiderate and dangerous parking around schools in the North East ward area.
“There is signage making it clear that this is prohibited.
“We will continue to take positive action in relation to dangerous parking and ensuring the safety of children in the local area.”
South Yorkshire Police warned that officers are keeping tabs on the issue, while MPs have also appealed for common sense to prevail.
The spokesperson added: “We would like to remind people to park considerably when dropping off and picking up children from school.
“If you park on the zig-zag lines or at the school gates, you are putting children at risk.”
