VOLUNTEERS are wanted for a special ‘wrapathon’ event next week which will ensure Barnsley’s care leavers have the best Christmas possible.

The scheme is led by Beth Goodliffe, a young care leaver who has first-hand experience of what she is attempting to make others avoid.

The project made its way to Barnsley seven years ago when Beth challenged people in the town to put on a Christmas dinner.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week the group will meet at Barnsley Fire Station from 10am to 4pm to take part in the annual wrapathon session.

Volunteers have already been found for Tuesday’s session but the group are still asking for help on Wednesday and Thursday.

Angela Fawcett, a steering group member, told the Chronicle: “We’re needing volunteers – it’s self-explanatory really as we need people who will be able to help with wrapping presents.

“We’re also asking for volunteer drivers and if anyone is able to help us with cooking the Christmas dinner that’d be great.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped already.”
