A DISCOUNTED food hub will hold its official opening later this month.
The Old Town ‘Good Food Pantry’ has been an outstanding success since opening in Honeywell Community Centre three months ago.
The pantry is staffed by community volunteers who organise delivery of a wide variety of food from supermarkets and other sources, which is then sold to residents at rock-bottom prices.
The running of the pantry is overseen by a committee of four women who dedicate many hours to the work and an army of volunteers.
The pantry was the idea of local Labour councillors on the ward alliance who worked with Berneslai Homes and Barnsley’s ‘Good Food Partnership’ to use the community centre from 12pm to 2pm each Wednesday.
Councillors and advice workers are also available to talk to at the pantry.
It will have an official opening on January 29.
