FUNDING has been secured to deliver a unique support programme.
Barnsley Libraries secured £17,330 through a National Lottery grant under their ‘A New Chapter’ initiative.
The funding will be used to provide support for menopausal and perimenopausal women in Barnsley.
The programme hopes to tackle the stigma around the effects menopause has on mental and physical health.
Two forms of support are provided, led by qualified and experienced professionals.
Midlife coach and nurse Sue Copeland will deliver sessions which encourage attendees to share and learn from their experiences on topics such as sleep and symptoms.
Seasoned instructor Sarah Wilson will deliver activity sessions providing relief through yoga, mindfulness and education.
The topics covered include anxiety, sleep, bone health, muscle loss, weight gain, hormonal imbalance and hot flashes.
Sessions will run every Saturday from January 4, 2025, at Library @ the Lightbox and Penistone Library for four weeks before moving to Roundhouse, Royston, Goldthorpe and Hoyland.
Early booking is encouraged via the Barnsley Libraries events page.
Luke Burton, director for libraries at Arts Council England, said: “We know how important the role of libraries is in the wellbeing of communities.
“I’m pleased that we have been able to support this programme through our grants fund.
“I’m sure that participants will find the sessions invaluable in navigating the challenges of perimenopause and menopause.”
