HEAVY snowfall which isolated some communities for more than a week will be discussed by councillors next week – after calls for a grit bin review were made to help residents keep their streets clear.
The snow, which struck on January 5, turned to ice and did not thaw due to a sub-zero cold snap continuing until the middle of the month.
Coun Will Fielding, who represents the Dodworth ward, urged the council to commit to a grit bin review after the area and nearby Silkstone and Penistone were badly hit.
“Following the recent challenging cold weather, I’d like the council to commit to reviewing the grit bin policy,” they said.
“I’d like them to assist in keeping our streets safe for those who experienced isolation.
“Many pavements and roads were inaccessible.”
The matter will be discussed at Thursday’s full council meeting.
