A NEW ‘Good Food Pantry’ has been opened in collaboration with an addiction recovery clinic to help make life easier for those hoping to become sober.

The pantry – which provides sustainable and affordable food for a small weekly fee – has been opened at The Recovery Hub in the McLintock’s Building, on the edge of town.

Open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, organisers hope that the news service will make life easier those accessing support for drug and alcohol-related issues from Recovery Steps, who manage the hub.

Councillor Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “Our goal is to help people live happy, healthy lives and ensure everyone has access to affordable, quality food.

“It’s wonderful to see another Good Food Pantry opening in Barnsley – this will be a great addition to our expanding network of pantries, which have already supported numerous families by providing affordable and high-quality food.

“We would like to thank Barnsley Recovery Steps and Barnsley Recovery Connections for collaborating with us to bring this fantastic initiative to those in need.”
