THE 100 Holgate Heroes whose lives were dedicated through a restored memorial plaque last year will be honoured once again during a ceremony next week.

Originally located at Holgate School and dedicated to the pupils who died in service, the memorial plaque was put into storage when the school closed down.

However dedicated locals and history buffs like Jane Ainsworth, Ian Harley and Melvyn Lunn found the plaque a new home at Shaw Lane Sports Club and honoured the soldiers listed through a month-long feature in the Chronicle last year.

A ceremony was held to re-dedicate the plaque and now a year later a similar service will be held again with former Holgate pupils attending.

Taking place next Friday at 10.30am, the service will include the presentation of a cheque of £1,500 – raised through the sales of The Holgate 100 book – to representatives of HM Forces.
