NINE arrests have been made so far today as part of Operation Duxford in Barnsley.

Today’s Operation Duxford has focused on child exploitation, neighbourhood crime and organised crime, and over 170 officers, staff and local partners have joined together as the dedicated operation returned to the streets of the town.

It was an early start for officers as search warrants were executed at a number of properties within the town centre, New Lodge and Honeywell areas.

By the early afternoon, nine suspects had been arrested for a range of offences, including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, shoplifting, rape, threats to kill, public order, handling stolen goods, possession of an offensive weapon and immigration offences.

As well as this, officers alongside staff from Barnsley Council conducted a scrap metal operation, where 42 vehicles were stopped and examined, and over 700 vehicles were monitored for seat belt and mobile phone offences.

The operation will continue throughout the rest of the day and into the night.

A police spokesperson said: “If you see our officers out and about, please do say hello. They are there to help and listen to any issues or concerns you may have.
