TWO Barnsley companies have been ordered to pay more than £14,000 in fines and costs after being prosecuted for food safety offences.
Darfield Super Store’s owner TSN Foods Ltd and Lastorders Food and Wine Ltd, who own Premier Last Orders in Wombwell, both appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court last week.
They were charged under the Food Safety Act 1990 and the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations 2013.
TSN pleaded guilty to seven offences including the sale of unsafe food items and failing to comply with improvement notices.
They were ordered to pay £10,933.34.
The other company was also forced to pay £3,931.96 for failing to comply with an improvement notice and selling unsafe food items.
Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “These prosecutions highlight how we take our responsibility to protect our communities seriously, taking action to stop potentially dangerous products from remaining on our shelves.”
