COUNCILLORS were honoured to hand out awards to the youngsters who took part in this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’.

Couns Brenda Eastwood, Robert Frost and James Higginbottom presented certificates, medals and gifts to the participants of this year’s challenge at Wombwell Library recently.

They said: “It was a great pleasure to attend the celebration event for the children who took part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and we were honoured to be invited to present the certificates and medals for all those involved.

“The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to get children reading through the school holidays and it is brilliant to hear that this year saw record numbers taking part.

“This follows significant investment by Barnsley Council into improving the children’s library in Wombwell to create an incredible space for our young people to enjoy.”
