BARNSLEY Council has been awarded a global health and safety award for the 23rd consecutive year.

The council were awarded the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Order of Distinction Award for health and safety performance – demonstrating its ‘unwavering commitment’ to excellence in the workplace.

Sarah Norman, chief executive at the council, said: “I am absolutely delighted and incredibly proud to hear that we have been awarded the prestigious and internationally recognised RoSPA award for our outstanding health and safety performance during 2023.

“Not only that, we’ve also won the award at Gold Standard now for 23 years running – a real commitment to excellence.

“Protecting our employees and keeping them safe is of utmost priority and this award really recognises how embedded the wellbeing of our employees is within our organisation.

“Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, and I look forward to this being recognised for many more decades.

“This achievement demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our health and safety team, the fantastic work they do, and the efforts made across the organisation and our schools to implement good practice and keep health, safety and wellbeing a key priority.
