MORE than 1,500 residents have had their homes repossessed over the last 20 years in Barnsley, new data has revealed.
The new research, carried out by Getamover, shows that Barnsley ranked eighth out of 21 local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber.
From 2003 to 2024, a total of 1,563 homes were repossessed, with a rate of 638 per 100,000 residents over that time frame.
Nearby Rotherham topped the list while Doncaster was in fourth. Sheffield was 15th.
