A UNIQUE festival that combines a love of folk music with a desire to give back will be returning to Penistone later this year.
The Folk Prostate Cancer festival ran for two years in 2018 and 2019, however like everything else had to go on hiatus as the Covid pandemic shut everything down.
Now however, husband and wife duo Damien O’Kane and Kate Rusby are bringing the successful two-day festival back on November 23 and 24 at the Penistone Paramount.
Damien said: “We were raising money for Prostate Cancer UK through live music - at first it was just a one-day thing.
“It was so successful that in 2019 we brought it back and had it run over two days - there was an afternoon and evening show on both Saturday and Sunday.
“We did it for prostate cancer because Kate’s dad was diagnosed with it in 2012 - I always had it in my mind to give something back.
“This year though we’ve made it more general - we all know someone who’s been affected by cancer, my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019.”
Funds raised from this year’s festival will be split between Yorkshire Cancer Research and Cancer Research UK Northern Ireland - where Damien is originally from.
The event promises to provide entertainment from talent including Kate, Eddi Reader and the Young’uns.
“There’s a huge folk music following in this area so this is something that gets a lot of interest,” Damien added.
“This weekend is more than just a concert series, it’s a celebration of music, community and hope.”
