A BARNSLEY man has pleaded guilty to abusing his position as treasurer at Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity to gain more than £230,000.

Kevin Proctor, 61, of Hall Close in Worsbrough Village, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday charged with fraud by abuse of position.

Between August 2016 and August 2022 Proctor gained a total of £230,875.36 whilst treasurer at the charity.

It’s stated that he ‘dishonestly abused the position’ to make financial gain and he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court has ordered a pre-sentencing report, and Proctor is due to be sentenced on October 4.

A spokesperson for BARC said: “This has been a difficult and disappointing time for our charity and was reported immediately to The Charity Commission and the Barnsley C.I.D who have dealt with this matter on our behalf.”
