A VILLAGE library is welcoming back visitors from today following a major refurbishment.

Mapplewell and Staincross Library is the seventh branch in the borough to benefit from the Libraries Refurbishment Programme and the newly-refurbished, expanded library features an enhanced children’s area, as well as new spaces for work and study, new carpets and more comfortable seating.

Coun Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “Mapplewell and Staincross Library, located at the village hall, is one of our busiest branches, so we would like to thank residents for their patience while we carried out the work to make the library offer even better than before.

“Whether you’re borrowing books, using the library for studying, or attending one of our exciting events or activities, we hope you’ll enjoy the newly refurbished space.”

To celebrate the re-opening, Mapplewell and Staincross Library will be hosting an official opening event later this summer.

The refurbishment is part-funded by Barnsley Council’s Principal Towns and Local Centres programme, with an additional £100,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
