THE town centre’s Barnsley Civic has begun a new young people’s art initiative thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The Young Civilians is aimed at people aged between 14 and 24 who are living in Barnsley and have an ambition to study or pursue a career in the arts.
The project, which starts in March 2025, will see a group of 16 recruits taking part in training and artist-led masterclasses, gaining experience in event planning, programming theatre and curating exhibitions.
They will also have the chance to volunteer at two of Barnsley’s biggest cultural events and eventually organise an arts festival aimed at Barnsley’s young people.
To take part applicants are asked to commit to two sessions per month until August 2025 and the deadline for applications is February 28.
