THE South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner has been on a fact-finding mission to a Wombwell-based department.
Dr Alan Billings visited the Internet Sex Offences Team (ISOT) to learn more about the work they do to prevent and tackle child sexual offences.
ISOT is responsible for intelligence gathering and identifying criminals. The team has 18 investigators and is led by two detective inspectors and two detective sergeants.
Dr Billings said: “I was pleased to visit the Internet SOT and see first-hand the crucial work they do in helping to keep children safe.
“Their collaboration with partner agencies has led to the apprehension of countless offenders, not just in South Yorkshire, but across the country and I thank them for their tireless work in identifying victims of online child abuse.”
Whilst in Wombwell, Dr Billings presented two awards to officers following ‘exceptional investigations’ which resulted in two convictions on substantial prison sentences.
