THOUSANDS of people in Barnsley are estimated to have dementia – though not all of them have been formally diagnosed.

Figures from the NHS show an estimated 3,146 people aged 65 or over in Barnsley had dementia as of November 30.

However, just 2,349 people in the area were registered with a recorded diagnosis.

It meant 25 per cent of people thought to have the condition do not have a formal diagnosis.
