A CHURCH-RUN foodbank’s volunteers have urged the public to donate to the cause to secure its long-term future.
Gateway Church’s foodbank, based on Mottram Street, opened in 2013 and has since provided meals to more than 15,000 in-need residents.
Due to staff shortages, volunteers are worried about the foodbank’s future, and are uncertain as to whether it will be able to remain open.
Pastor Mark Reasbeck said: “The foodbank has made a tremendous difference to many people in direct need.
“Some have returned, in happier times, to donate or volunteer.
“We have a fantastic group of local volunteers, with wonderful support from individuals and supermarkets donating but we need extra help.
“In the climate of rising energy costs, we know the foodbank will need to be available more than ever.”
