IMPROVEMENT works are set to take place at a primary school at a cost of £80,000.
A council report said that although works to Gawber Primary School are on the agenda at a cabinet meeting next month, the decision has been made to start the procurement process early in order to allow more time for pricing, tendering the contract and ordering materials ahead of works starting.
The scheme, which will see a new entrance and access to the site, was approved as part of last year’s schools programme but external works were delayed until the current year.
The report said that waiting for cabinet approval could lead the scheme to be deferred until next summer.
“The report is scheduled to be heard at the Cabinet meeting on May 18,” it said.
“Should approval be given, including the five-day call in period, the earliest the council’s property team could issue the tenders to the market is May 25.
“This timeframe presents difficulties in running a compliant procurement which gives enough time for contractor pricing of the works, tender evaluation and award, and still allows for sufficient lead-in periods for the successful contractor to order materials, allow for site set-up and for resources to be allocated.”
