BARNSLEY residents are being urged to recycle as much as possible over the festive period.

The amount of waste people produce rises by more than 30 per cent over the Christmas period.

Experts at the BDR Biffa Waste Treatment Facility, based at Manvers, are urging people to get the most out of their recycling bins.

Rebecca Wilson, from the community education liaison team, said: “Over the festive period we know that lots of extra waste goes into people’s recycling bins.

“That means some households run out of space in their bins.

“Just by squashing cans and plastic bottles, or folding cardboard you can make a difference to the amount of material that can be recycled.”
