A COMMUNITY mosaic that was repeatedly targeted by vandals has been given a new home.
The mosaic, part of Big Local Thurnscoe’s ‘Under the Tracks’ project, had been sited at the village’s train station but the group were forced to continually make minor repairs before eventually taking it down altogether.
Installed in December 2017, the artwork made by Frances Taylor alongside local schoolchildren was taken away for repairs after suffering too much damage.
It now joins Big Local Thurnscoe’s hare sculpture in the Thurnscoe Centre’s grounds on Welfare Road.
Development worker Alison Vint said that the Big Local partnership are happy that the mosaic is once more on display.
“We are all thrilled to have the mosaic once more in the public domain after it was taken down for repairs,” she added.
“The new location is much more secure and makes the approach to the Health Centre more inviting.
“We hope that residents will enjoy seeing the mosaic again and identifying the Thurnscoe landmarks it portrays.”
