BARNSLEY Hospital is one of the first health trusts in the country to sign up to The Rainbow Badge scheme.
The scheme gives staff a way to show that the hospital offers open, non-judgemental and inclusive care for children, young people and their families who identify as LGBT+ (lesbian gay, bisexual, transgender and all identities) regardless of how people define themselves.
The rainbow NHS badge, worn by hospital staff, is a visual symbol that identifies its wearer as someone an LGBT+ person can talk to about issues relating to sexual orientation or gender identity without fear of judgement.
The scheme originally started at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and community services, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, with a simple aim of making a positive difference by promoting a message of inclusion.
