THE quest to find this year's winners of the Proud of Barnsley awards is underway - and already has the support of Darren Gough.
"I'm delighted to be supporting Proud of Barnsley this year," said the former Monk Bretton-born England cricketer. "I've always been proud of coming from Barnsley and over the years, our town has produced some great men and women."
Other celebrities who are supporting the awards to discover the town's unsung heroes include Oakwell legend Mick McCarthy, Mr Selfridge actress Katherine Kelly, former Reds star Jon Stones and one of the country's favourite radio presenters, Simon Hirst.
Inside this week's Chronicle, you'll find a special launch supplement telling you everything you need to know about nominating someone for a Proud of Barnsley award.
Chronicle editor Andrew Harrod, said: "More than 300 nominations were received last year and we are certain we will top that this year."
The winners will receive a special trophy designed by sculptor Graham Ibbeson at a glitzy awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn, Dodworth in November.
