URGENT action has been demanded at a park which is being plagued by a month-long water leak.

Coun Steve Hunt has called on Yorkshire Water to deliver on its promise to carry out repair work at Mapplewell Park.

It’s thought the issue – which floods a field near the multi-use games area during rainfall – is being caused by a damaged main.

However, Coun Hunt has also urged Barnsley Council to clear blocked drains at the site, which is adding to problems.

“A meeting took place between a council parks officer and Yorkshire Water on January 3 where Yorkshire Water agreed it was their responsibility to fix but nothing has been done,” he added.

“The issue is also now affecting the pavement on Blacker Road so we will continue to monitor this situation for park users.”
