BARNSLEY College is celebrating after being announced as a double finalist in prestigious education awards – including the overall Further Education (FE) College of the Year category.

The Educate North Awards have, for more than a decade, recognised excellence, high achievement and growth across the North of England’s education institutions.

Alongside being one of eight colleges in the running for the FE College of the Year Award, the college's sustainability efforts are up for the Sustainable Green Initiative prize.

Barnsley College Principal and CEO David Akeroyd said: “Our mission is to transform lives – by inspiring students to achieve their aspirations, addressing the skills needs of our region, and driving cultural change around sustainability.

“It is brilliant to see these efforts recognised with Barnsley College named as a finalist in two categories of the Educate North Awards.

“These awards recognise excellence across the entire North of England, and with so many amazing institutions and initiatives in the running, we are proud to be flying the flag for Barnsley and South Yorkshire.

“From Industry Weeks and our remarkable academies programme that prepare students for the world of work, to major capital projects such as our Modern Methods of Construction Training Centre and upcoming Institute of Technology building, we know that what we do is exceptional.

“This recognition is down to the hard work, innovation and commitment of all our staff, students and partners. We very much look forward to the awards ceremony.”

The Educate North Awards ceremony will take place at The Hilton Hotel, Manchester Deansgate on Thursday April 3.
