BARNSLEY FC Community Trust has launched its ‘Reds Unite’ scheme in a bid to promote football participation among ethnic minority communities.

The inclusive football initiative is funded through the Premier League Fans Fund and aimed at increasing participation among black, Asian, and ethnic minority communities in Barnsley.

The programme seeks to break down barriers, promote diversity and provide greater opportunities for underrepresented groups in the sport.

The launch was attended by academy players Jonathan Bland, Josiah Dyer and Callum West.

Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and get an insight into life as an academy player and how they find playing within a professional football club.

Inclusion officer Jake Batty said: “We are excited to launch ‘Reds Unite’ as part of our commitment to making football accessible to everyone.

“We believe that by breaking down barriers and creating opportunities, we can inspire more people to get involved in the sport and feel a sense of belonging within the football community.”

Sessions will take place every Monday evening at Barnsley FC Community Trust.
