FASHION retailer ASOS is set to serve its customers in the US from its Barnsley site, it has been revealed.

The company said that, over the past two years, it had reduced stock levels by about 50 per cent and launched a new commercial model requiring lower stock holding.

From the second half of the 2025 financial year, US customers will be served from ASOS’s automated UK fulfilment centre near Little Houghton.

The company will ‘mothball’ its Atlanta distribution centre, with the staff affected by the change offered alternative roles.

Speaking after the announcement, Coun Kevin Osborne said: “This is fantastic news for the GXO Logistics/ASOS warehouse in Little Houghton.

“Built on the site of Houghton Main Colliery, this global distribution centre is arguably South Yorkshire’s largest private employer.

“There’s a strong sense of pride in our community that ASOS chose Barnsley as its UK base in 2010 and including USA customers on to the long list of countries across the world that will receive a package from Barnsley just adds to that pride.”
