A BARNSLEY club handed over a cheque for more than £1,400 to a local charity which supports homeless veterans this week.
Last month Barnsley Trades Club, on Racecommon Road, hosted a charity night to raise money for Help 4 Homeless Veterans.
Jackie Garner, the stewardess at the club, said the cause holds a special place in her heart for a number of reasons.
She added: “We’ve manage to raise £1,406 for Help 4 Homeless Veterans in Barnsley.
“We held a charity night on November 8 which raised more than £1,000.
“My husband, Austin, died last month and we raised a further £300 in donations at his funeral.
“I’m ex-service myself and so was my husband.
“I just think that it’s wrong that there’s any veterans homeless at all.”
