STUDENTS who have been working on a project to raise awareness of a former stately home’s plight are sharing their vision with the wider community this week.
Grade II-listed Grimethorpe Hall - which was built in 1670 for Robert Seaton - has long been the subject of a series of failed bids to bring it back into use since it was last occupied more than half a century ago.
The group are all architecture master’s students at the University of Sheffield and a spokesperson said: “Over the past month, we collaborated with the Grimethorpe community, gathering valuable local insights at St. Lukes’s Church Wednesday coffee meet-ups, and discussing the Hall’s future over Sunday pints at the Red Rum. Recently, we also had the pleasure of presenting an assembly at Ladywood Primary School, where the children shared their creative ideas for the Hall through a fun drawing activity.
“We’re excited to share our vision with the wider community and show you the possibilities we see for Grimethorpe Hall. Drop in at St. Luke’s on Thursday (October 31), from 5pm to 8pm.
“We'll present our ideas for the hall and would love to get your feedback. Drawings by the children of Ladywood Primary School will also be exhibited showing their ideas for what the hall could become. We will run a hands-on activity for all ages during which everyone will get a chance to contribute to a piece of art that will be exhibited in the Grimethorpe Hall as soon as the building is secured. It will be a mark that Grimethorpe Hall is a space for the community.”
A student spokesperson said that most of all the event is a great place to meet people interested in getting involved in bringing Grimethorpe Hall back to life.
“In the meantime you can also join a facebook group Friends of Grimethorpe Hall https://www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofgrimethorpehall/
“We’ll have plenty of sweet treats so you won’t miss out on the Halloween fun! We are looking forward to seeing you there!”
