A TELEVISION star and autism advocate visited the Autism Allotments in Thurnscoe last weekend as part of a mini documentary she is making.
Christine McGuinness is making the broadcast about both the Accessible Allotments and Autism Allotments which will air in November on BBC One’s Morning Live.
The scheme is spearheaded by inspirational parents Michael and Paul Atwal-Brice who have been trying to support locals who need it most.
Christine spent all day exploring the gardens whilst speaking to dedicated volunteers who some of have additional needs themselves.
She also spoke to parents and carers who visit the weekly support and stay and play group and found out how it benefits them and their families.
Christine said: “I absolutely loved it – it’s so peaceful here. As an autistic adult and parent of three autistic children I can see how important and beneficial this site is.
“I love the visual aids as my children were non-verbal when they where younger.
“Meeting so many of the volunteers and families I can see just how desperately needed this is and just wish there were more around the UK.”
A Halloween ‘Spooktacular’ takes place today from 10am to 12pm, and then a further session will take place from 12pm to 4pm.
