LOCALS joined Barnsley Council workers for a community clean-up day at Wombwell’s Shipcroft Centre recently.

Volunteers joined councillors, Berneslai Homes, the council’s south area caretaker team and pupils from Park Street Primary School to ensure the centre is in good shape.

Activities included litter picking, weed clearance and digging, vegetation clearance, scraping moss and the school pupils took part in planting spring bulbs.

Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all of the council services, local volunteers and Park Street pupils for coming along to support the community clean up event at Shipcroft.

“Following feedback from residents we have been working hard with council services to ensure the centre is looking its best.”
