REPRESENTATIVES of the national Chapels Society took a trip into Barnsley last weekend to celebrate the architecture of a local church.
Members of the society travelled great distances – including from Brighton, Telford, Loughborough and Bromsgrove – to Buckley Methodist Church on Saturday.
From there, Gerard Charmley, a member from Leeds, proceeded to take visitors on a tour of the mostly stone-built churches, chapels and meeting houses around town.
The society aims to increase public interest in the architectural and historical importance of places of worship and had lots to see in Barnsley, with nearly a dozen churches within walking distance of the town centre.
Gerard said: “It was very interesting to visit active places of worship in Barnsley. The town centre was really impressive and it was good to be so warmly welcomed.”
