LOCAL schoolchildren were invited to the Barnsley FC Community Trust this week for a talk by charity Show Racism the Red Card.

Pupils from Burton Road, Queens Road, Holy Rood and Summer Lane were joined by Barnsley FC players Donovan Pines and Vimal Yoganathan, academy players Robson Woodcock and Kalaab Daniel and former Reds striker Kayode Odejayi on Wednesday.

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity.

It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

Barnsley FC Community Trust’s Premier League Primary Stars Officer, Macauley Hobson, said: “It’s always a pleasure to have Show Racism the Red Card with us and we’d like to extend our thanks to Richard and Dave for their time this afternoon.

“The educational workshop gives the children the opportunity to learn about an important topic in a fun and inclusive way.

“We’d also like to thank Donovan, Vimal, Kayode, Kalaab and Robson for taking the time to come and share their experiences.”
