THE annual bonfire event at a local club has been cancelled.
The management committee at Carlton Village Working Men’s Club confirmed the cancellation earlier this week.
A spokesperson said: “Regrettably due to a pending insurance claim against the club our insurers are not prepared to increase their exposure at this current time.
“The management committee have therefore taken the only decision possible to us and cancelled our annual bonfire event, we are unable to meet the local authorities requirements for the event to proceed.
“Please do not bring any wood to what would have been the site because you will fall foul of the council’s fly-tipping rules.”
