A FISHING club will be hosting their annual presentation night tomorrow where they hope to celebrate their success at a recent festival and raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The Keel Inn SAC will be hosting the presentation at the pub on Canal Street tomorrow at 8pm, with raffles and a race night to raise funds for the good cause.
This year hasn’t been the best for the group, as poor weather and high tides have put an end to a handful of activities, but they still managed to take part in the Whitby Chartered Skipper Association Festival on August 31, which featured 900 anglers over the course of two weeks.
Member Paul ‘Tog’ Edwards said of the festival: “We fished off Andy Savage’s Sea Urchin 111 and we took first, second and third place on the first day,
“Ian ‘Chips’ Mallin won £50 for the biggest fish of the day, a ling of 16lb 14oz.
“Garreth Jones came second with a ling at 13lb 2oz and I came third with a cod at 11lb 13.5oz.
“Ian’s fish was leading the competition for the first week chasing the top prize of £1,000, but sadly he was beaten by another fish but came second overall in the two week competition.
“He won a two-day stay in a Whitby hotel with a drinks voucher.”
