PUPILS from a Penistone primary school made a special trip down to Westminster recently.

Marie Tidball, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, is a former pupil at St John’s Primary School.

She welcomed them to Westminster earlier this month.

Ms Tidball said: “The children’s day started with a tour of the Palace of Westminster, followed by a workshop on how Parliament works.

“I then joined the group to share my story of how I became a Member of Parliament after growing up in our town, followed by a Q and A session.

“The children asked about how nervous I was on election night, and in return I received some excellent advice from them about how to handle nerves – I’ll be using their tips when I make my maiden speech.

“Visiting Parliament offers a unique opportunity for young people to learn about our democratic processes and the importance of civic engagement.”

She is asking any school who would like to make the same visit to get in touch at marie.tidball.mp@parliament.uk.
