POLICE officers have been out on the beat as part of increased patrols to tackle antisocial behaviour in hotspot areas.

The extra patrols took place on Sunday and, funded by the Hotspot Response Hub, were on the streets of Barnsley to tackle a number of issues.

These patrols place our high-visibility officers in key hotspot areas which unfortunately see higher rates of antisocial behaviour, as part of a Home Office-funded hotspot response funding initiative.

During their patrols on Sunday, as well as community engagement with a number of youth groups, officers recovered a small amount of cannabis, after successfully searching a vehicle.

Inspector Joel Turner, who leads the Hotspot Response Hub, said: “These patrols not only put our officers in areas that benefit from additional patrols, but also gives us the opportunity to engage with members of our communities, breaking down barriers, providing further support and referrals if needed.

“We know these patrols are having an impact, with many residents and business owners feeding back to officers they have seen positive results and feel reassured by our constant patrolling in these hotspot areas.

“If you do see our officers out and about, please do stop and say hello.

“They are there to listen and help where they can.”
