A ROYSTON pensioner who was attacked with a bottle in the town centre at the weekend said he ‘dreads to think of the consequence’ if it had hit somebody else.

Garry Seymour, 69, was walking along Regent Street South last Saturday when a car, reportedly driven recklessly, sped past him.

He was then hit by a canister which caused an injury on his right leg, which required hospital treatment.

Garry was supported by staff at the nearby Hair Revolution salon – and says he can’t thank them enough.

But he’s now hoping more will be done to support pedestrians on that stretch of road.

He said: “I came out of a bar and onto Regent Street South when a car drove past and I was hit with a metal bottle containing laughing gas.

“I needed hospital treatment as there was a big gash on my right leg.

“The staff at the hair salon helped me with some first aid and I can’t thank them enough.

“That road is made for cyclists and pedestrians and should only be used by cars who are using the businesses.

“But this wasn’t the case so something needs to be done.

“There needs to be bollards at either side to stop this happening.

“I dread to think of the consequences if it had gone through the window or hit someone else.”

Police have confirmed an investigation is underway following the incident, and are urging people who witnessed it to get in touch.
