A DARFIELD man who drove a pick-up truck filled with debris which was used to attack police during the Manvers disorder has been jailed.

Jake Turton was part of the large-scale scenes of violent disorder at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers, Rotherham, on Sunday August 4.

The 38-year-old was recorded by the National Police Air Service arriving near the hotel in a red Ford Ranger with wood and other objects on the back.

Several people were then seen engaging with Turton before taking items from the back of the vehicle and using them as missiles to launch at officers protecting the hotel.

Planks of wood also taken from Turton’s vehicle were used to fuel fires around the building.

He was arrested after the registration of the vehicle linked his father to the car. Turton admitted it was him using his father’s car but refused to comment on any other questions in a police interview.

Turton, of West Street, Darfield, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Sheffield Crown Court on 24 October and was jailed for two years and three months at the same court yesterday (November 6).
