A NEW parish councillor has taken up a post in Great Houghton.
A notice for a proposed by-election in the area was posted earlier this month.
However, as only one person put their name forward they have been selected without an election.
Lindsay Clayton will be the new councillor on Great Houghton Parish Council.
A spokesperson said: “The parish council would like to thank Lindsay for standing for election to our parish council.
“As procedures dictate, no election or voting is required as Lindsay was the only candidate that applied.”
Meanwhile, a by-election will be held for a new parish councillor in Penistone in the coming days.
A total of four people have put themselves forward for the role, with the election taking place on Thursday, September 12.
Edward Dillingham will be Reform UK’s candidate for the election.
He received 21.5 per cent 9,456 votes of the share at the recent general election.
The candidate for the Lib Dems is Matthew Nicholson, and Labour’s is Mark Slater.
Former town councillor David Wood is also standing in the by-election, though he is not affiliated with any party.
He recently stood to become a Reform UK councillor in the Penistone West ward and received 429 votes and finished fourth in May..
