LOCALS are being encouraged to sign up for the annual Manvers Charity Shield Dragon Boat race next month.

Taking place at Manvers Lake on September 7 from 10am to 5pm, hundreds of racers turn out in force to raise as much money as possible.

Teams need 16 paddlers plus one drummer and to take part participants must be aged over 18.

The entry for the day is £400 with teams also being encouraged to raise funds for a charity of their choice.

A spokesperson for the Manvers Lake Trust said: “We at Manvers Lake have held both national dragon boat events and charity dragon boat events for the last few years.

“We know how to put on a spectacular event, with qualified helms to steer the boat, safety cover and a team of experts to help you bank side.

“The event is free to all spectators.

“We will be having stalls, food vendors and other attractions to keep everyone entertained throughout the day.

“The day will end with a presentation to the top two teams.

“The teams who come first and second will receive medals and trophies to keep.

“The winners will also receive their name engraved on the coveted Manvers Lake Charity Shield, which will be displayed on site for all to see.

“The winning team will also receive £400 donation to their chosen charity or non-profit organisation.”
