A BLUE plaque commemorating 200 Hungarian refugees who were welcomed to Barnsley in the 1950s will be unveiled later this year.

On the afternoon of Wednesday October 23, a blue plaque will be unveiled by Hungarian Consul General Dr Laszlo Risko-Nagy to the 200 Hungarian refugees who were made welcome by Barnsley in 1956 following the crushed Hungarian revolution.

It will be accompanied by a presentation by Dr Andrew Zsigmond who was one of the refugees with a welcome by the Mayor of Barnsley Coun John Clarke.

The venue and time will be confirmed in due course.
