BARNSLEY South MP Stephanie Peacock has been in Paris this week in her role as newly-appointed Minister for Sport.

Ms Peacock said: “As we all wish Team GB the very best of luck at the Olympics it’s been a privilege to represent the UK in Paris as Sports Minister.

“It was pleasure to visit the athletes’ lounge with the Prime Minister to speak to some of our athletes and wish them luck. And, of course, an honour to meet HRH the Princess Royal, Honorary President of the British Olympic Association.

“While I was there I attended the Commonwealth Sports Ministers’ meeting where I spoke about how sport is key to our health aims, referencing Barnsley in my contribution. I also attended the Paris Summit on Sport for Sustainable Development which focused on youth, sport and sustainable development, in areas such as health, nutrition, inclusion and education.”
