BARNSLEY Council bosses will be quizzed this week on whether or not they’ll ensure areas outside of the town centre will be well kept.

Coun Steve Bullcock, who represents the Kingstone ward, will ask the question at next week’s full council meeting.

He said: “The floral displays outside the town hall in the town centre have looked fantastic this year – as is the case every year.

“Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the numerous planters situated in Kingstone ward which have been neglected for many years, are overgrown and attract street litter and vermin.

“The street backings in the ward suffer similarly from litter and fly-tipping.

“Along with my councillor colleagues and local volunteers we are doing our best to improve and maintain these areas – but is the council responsible for these areas?

“If so, why are they not maintaining them?”
