BARNSLEY’S pulmonary rehab service has been praised nationally for supporting people with long-term lung conditions.

The service, which is run by the South West Yorkshire NHS Partnership Trust, was highlighted as a positive example by the Royal College of Physicians’ National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAP) after 100 per cent of patients were able to start pulmonary rehabilitation within 90 days of their referral in both 2022 and 2023.

The NRAP for England and Wales aims to improve the quality of care, services, and clinical outcomes for people with respiratory disease.

The team are one of just nine across the country selected by NRAP as an exemplary case study.

Gill Stansfield, director of services, said: “I’m very proud of the team’s hard work and dedication, and to be recognised nationally is a fantastic achievement.

“Very few services across the country are asked to represent best practice in an NRAP case study, so for the team to be selected is testament to their efforts in improving the health and wellbeing of local people.”
